Social Media Week is where “humanity and technology meet.” Social Media Week 14 took place in globally in 8 cities this February – New York City, Lagos, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Bangalore, Barcelona, Milan and Tokyo, focusing on the theme “The Future of Now: Always On, Always Connected." This year proved to be the most diverse and gender balanced event to date, with more than 50% of participants being women and over 20% of speakers with ethnic backgrounds.
Social Media Week New York (SMWNYC) 2014 was headquartered at the “Campus” at the Highline Stages from February 17-21, 2014. The Campus featured three stages dedicated to the themes ENGAGE, INNOVATE and CHANGE. The Campus also featured many booths from established and startup tech companies, including Nokia, Poppin, Yelp, Engagor, Leica, Percolate and YPlan.
Keynote discussions were given by Jonah Peretti (Founder and CEO, Buzzfeed), Eli Pariser (Co-CEO and Co-Founder, Upworthy), Steve Case (Chairman and CEO, Revolution), Erin Clift (Vice President of Global Marketing & Partnerships, Spotify), Harper Reed (CTO, Obama for 2012 re-election and CEO, Lunar Technology Corp). The key themes of Social Media Week New York this year included:

This year Social Media Week even launched a new mobile app for attendees. The app not only includes an easy to read schedule and tagboard, but also includes an interactive component, allowing attendees to find and start conversations with one another through the app.
Needless to say by the attendance and growing size of SMWNYC, this year proved to be a great success. Many attendees left very satisfied having learned a lot from each of the panels.
