The social media world was inundated with opinions and news breaks about Kwame Kilpatrick's conviction today. The former Detroit mayor was found guilty of 24 charges including extortion and racketeering.
He and Bobby Ferguson were taken into custody immediately following the close of the trial and they are awaiting the final sentencing. Charges of racketeering carry sentances of 20 years, so he could be looking at long jail time.
There have been mixed responses all across sites like Twitter and Facebook. Some say that the race issue played a big part, while others say that where there is crime, there must be time to pay. Many are worried about the family members that will be most impacted, including Kilpatrick's 3 young sons. However, with millions of dollars still unaccounted for, many think that the decision to send Kilpatrick directly to prison was right on target.
News outlet social media accounts have also been keeping tabs on these proceedings as well as the statements of U.S. governement officials that were a part of the trial including U.S. attorney, Barbara McQuade, who said that "Kwame Kilpatrick didn't lead the city, he looted the city." What do you think?
