The definition of social media according to Merriam Webster, it is the form of electronic communication. In 2012 social media buzz did rise for both Facebook and Twitter. According to Digital Buzz, where the growth took place on Facebook was in the area of users as it showed numbers enhancing for members with amount of friends and the “likes” they have towards specific pages. Another interesting Facebook statistic number showed in the percentage amount of consumers who were more likely to suggest specific brand names to their friend’s list.
Digital Buzz also gave the 2012 social media growth for the social media giant Twitter. Digital Buzz points out Twitter had fantastic statistical data in marketing generation with creating leads through Twitter, as the amount equaled 34%. Interestingly, users preferred the mobile device when being on the social media Twitter application as the statistical numbers were shown as 55%. Twitter has grown in popularity for a social media application whether it is by mobile or desktop.
The largest issue within social media relates to privacy factors. Users want to communicate with those they know but users expect privacy when it comes to their personal information. As of now, certain things have changed with the social media Facebook where users are limited to what documentation is going to be kept private. This raises questions as to why these changes have been made. What is most confusing to many is the founder of Facebook has spent millions of dollars to buy his own privacy by purchasing the surrounding homes to keep persons from looking into his home. Considering what this founder has just done on a personal level it makes any business owner or personal user of Facebook seriously consider the ethical thought as to why these changes were made so members can no longer have a private and confidential status on social media.
