Today many people witnessed the inauguration of President Barack Obama's second term today from Washington. But the world watched via social media and news outlets. There was an amazing amount of news coverage at the event, but nothing compares to the access and speed of crowd members sharing through social media.
Despite political beliefs, this was a chance for the country to come together and be inspired by democracy and the government that we have. Social media played a crucial role in this. The attendees of the event uploaded a myriad of media that was seen across the nation and even globally. This mass uploading played an important part.
The tweets, Facebook posts, uploaded photos, instagrams, etc. were incredible. And not to mention the people sharing on social media based on what they were seeing on the news. It's so easy for our global community to unite, comment and discuss events in real time. The world can experience major events remotely because of the amount of sharing. We have become a society of social media users.
Photos of the Obama's, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kelly Clarkson and others have become major hits in the online community. They have been shared over and over again, not only via the internet, but also through word of mouth.
This inauguration, and any major event that happens in 2013, will be incredibly covered. And because of this new reliance on social media.
