Today’s graduate is faced with one of the most difficult job markets in a long time. The difficulty of finding a job straight out of college brings many challenges and obstacles for one to face. A possible option for individuals to look to relates to social media.
Though this past January, the Labor Department’s most recent report revealed a slight decrease in the unemployment rate among college graduates 25 and over with a 3.7% rate. Previous months November and December of 2012 had a 3.9% rate. The college graduate unemployment rate is still high enough to cause difficulties for many recent college graduates and there is a high probability that the unemployment rate will increase as the year progresses and a whole new batch of graduates enter the market this summer.
One excellent option that’s popping up in cities throughout the world is networking mixers and discussions led by industry thought leaders. Attending these local networking events in your nearest local major city will benefit your own personal brand greatly. Exposing yourself to opportunities that may exist with like-minded individuals in the same city you’re trying to make it in might result into a job for yourself.

As a recent graduate myself this is one strategic tool I personally see working for recent college graduates. An organization like the Social Media Club will allow you to engage with and learn from social media and marketing professionals in San Diego. As a recent college graduate you need to gain as much exposure as possible. If there’s an option to utilize something that the age group that’s currently graduating is comfortable talking about and using like social media it would be best to start your exposure here. Graduates now and in the future are a part of the tech savvy generations, use this to your advantage.
