Social Media Club NH's State of Social Media in NH Event

Social Media Club NH (SMCNH) is an event group that networks innovators in media, government, business, technology, healthcare, education, entertainment and more in order to expand social media literacy, share lessons learned, encourage adoption of industry standards, and promote ethics through action.

On Friday, February 26, 2010 SMCNH is presenting an event called State of Social Media in NH from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside located at 250 Market Street in Portsmouth, NH. From the words of SMCNH, "We invite your to join us for our inaugural event, which combined speakers, a panel, and collaborative work sessions in order to discuss where we are in NH social media and technology development, and identify next steps for our communities in the greater NH area."


6:00pm - Social Half Hour Begins at the Portsmouth Sheraton - a cash bar will be provided throughout the event.

6:35pm - A series of 10-minute presentations from leaders in NH's Government, Education, Health, Entertainment and Business communities sharing their experiences with social media, and where they see NH innovation heading within their fields (speakers to be announced)

7:35pm - Panel discussion with our presenters

8:00pm - Break out sessions, where you the participants
determine what the the challenges you face are, where you see opportunities, and formulate next steps to make these plans a reality

8:30pm - Teams present findings to the group, allowing us to feed it into the a roadmap

9:00pm - Go home, or join us for our official after-party, the inaugural TechKaraoke NH event.

Speakers for the Inaugural SMCNH Event

Media: David Hurlburt (@DHurlburt), WMUR Channel 9 Assistant News Director, coordinating the crossover between on-air to Web-based coverage.

Government: A representative of the NH Department of Information Technology, established in 2003 with the goal of delivering enhanced technological services by adopting a new perspective.

Healthcare: Grant Sanborn (@PortsmouthReg), Portsmouth Regional Hospital's Director of Interactive Marketing and Chairman of the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors.

Technology: Nick Plante (@ZapNap), founder of Rails Rumble software innovation competition, current organizer of NH.rb Ruby user group, and co-author of "Practical Rails Plugins"

Business: Karen Marzloff (@SeacoastLocal), co-founder and Network Lead of, a non-profit network of local businesses and non-profits who share a vision of a local, living economy based on sustainable practices.

Culture: David Karlotski (@WireNH), publisher of The Wire and co-founder of The RPM Challenge, a NH-based project challenging thousands of bands internationally to record an original album in 28 days.

Education: John Herman (@JohnHerman), Media Literacy and Language Arts high school teacher and Media Consultant and Trainer for Media Power Youth, integrating innovative programs into local education from video blogging to cloud computing.
