A couple of weeks ago, I had the ultimate pleasure of attending a Charity based Spa event that was taking place at the Yelo Spa on 57th street and 5th avenue in Manhattan. It came to be known as the #Chocolatecharity event based on the chocolate treats and chocolate spa services that were offered.
So, what made this event so special for me? Well, I got to speak in detail with the hostess; the oh-so-fabulous Sally Golan of Social Exposure, where she hosts and cohosts events that really push the envelope in theme. While the Chocolate Charity spa event was one of her more tamed and toned down events as compared to naked painting parties or lingerie parties, there was an intimate atmosphere that was really open and inviting for all. This offered everyone the opportunity to network, chit chat and get to know each other better and even gave Sally the ability to take the time and get to know her guests- including me.
With a European background, a business shark mentality and a true jet-setter, Sally is all about breaking the mold. “I like to do things that are really creative and push the boundaries a bit” says Golan of her brand and events. “My aim is to make events in New York fun and different; not your average, run of the mill kind of stuff.” That they are and I’m looking forward to attending more, including an upcoming Masquerade party being held at the gorgeous Trump Soho. Needless to say, I’ll be there.
Sally and Social Exposure wasn’t hosting this event alone though. The quickly growing luxury lifestyle publication, Millennium Magazine was there in full effect and I even had a chance to pow wow with the owner, Warren Woodberry Jr. as he took pictures of the event. “I often partner with Social Exposure for events; we have the same kind of vision, so it works for us.” Warren told me. I’d have to agree that they paired perfectly in order to execute this event without a hitch.
Another great person of interest to me as I headed to the back to view her make-up spread was Anna Victoria Scheumann of New York Betty, a beauty company that is organic, natural and health based, but doesn’t lack in luster. As she applied a gorgeous purple lip gloss to my pout (and you guys know how much I am obsessed with purple) I was in awe that these bright and reactive hues existed in the natural beauty world, which is usually very muted and neutral.
“A lot of times when there are chemical processes to create things, there are by-products and contaminants included. If there is less than 1% total, the company doesn’t even have to list it! Bottom line: cosmetics should be as good for your skin as skin care is; and they don’t have to be boring. The colors should really pop and be on trend and that’s where I come in” says Anna. I was delighted by her color selection of bright pinks, oranges and purples. Who said being a naturalista has to be dull?
Of course, a party is no party without the alcohol and the bottles were plentiful and flowing! As I got to know one of the sponsors, Bob Manfredonia of Magnifico Giornata Wines, I enjoyed sampling their variety of light and delicious sparkling wines known as "Magnifico Essence" which are flavored with notes of grapefruit blanc, ginger peach and honey lavender. The best part? There’s under 100 calories per serving and half the carbonation of champagne, so it’s less harsh as well. At an affordable price of around $25 per bottle, I’m sold!
I loved the fact that a portion of proceeds went toward the International Fund for Animal Welfare, which rescues and protects animals around the world. IFAW rescues individual animals, works to prevent cruelty to animals, and advocates for the protection of wildlife and habitats. I’m looking forward to future events with these movers and shakers as they continue to innovate and create events that are not only fun to attend, but charitable as well. Bravo!
