The OC Music Awards show is a little more than a week away. I cannot sit here and tell you who will win, but I can tell you about the honoree for the Impact Award. Last year, Sugar Ray was honored with the Impact Award (yes, really). This year, it is a band that has impacted the OC music scene more and for a longer time than any other band that comes to mind.
Social Distortion has been more or less the face of Orange County music for three decades. OK, so this is not a band that records as prolifically as Drive-By Truckers. But the band recently released an album (Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes) and is touring to support it. Frankly, I cannot think of a better way to celebrate 10 years of the Orange County Music Awards than to honor a band that has had a solid following and a huge impact on the local music scene.
The Orange County Music Awards show is at The Grove on 5 March. The show begins at 8. Be there to see the presentation about this seminal Orange County band.
