Sochi, Russia is hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics. According to the 2010 census the city of Sochi had a population of 343,334. Sochi is Russia’s largest resort city. Of all the places, Sochi’s climate is warm to hot in the summers and mild winters. The Mother Nature is not cooperating with regards to snow in the Russian city, Atlanta, Chicago or New York could have hosted the Winter Olympics this year. Atlanta has had unseasonable low temperatures not to mention snow and below freezing temperatures. Records show that Sochi will also host the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This is Russia’s first opportunity to host the Winter Olympic Games and hosting the Paralympic Games.
