The Sochi Olympics 2014 are offering a look at some new sports for the upcoming Olympic Games. The opportunity to get the fans excited about different elements in the sporting community has everyone checking out what is going to be new when the athletes arrives for the competition. Add that most of the new sports will be worth watching, and the 2014 games are giving people a new reason to tune in.
Mixed Figure Skating Team
This new sport will be featuring teams made up of six skaters. The mixed team will have one male skater, one female skater, one pair of skaters and one ice dance couple performing for each team. Points will be awarded for the routine and the team with the highest number of aggregate points will win gold medal.
Men’s and Women’s Ski Halfpipe
This competition will have fans watching the athletes showing off their tricks. Each athlete is expected to perform an array of big airs techniques and other tricks in the halfpipe. The athletes will be judged on technical execution, amplitude, difficulty and use of pipe.
Women’s Ski Jumping
This sport will make Olympic history. The women’s normal hill event is the first time that women will compete in ski jumping at the Winter Games. The point system as the men’s competition will be used and fans are expected to see female athletes showcase record speeds.
Men’s and Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle
Both male and female athletes will get one run for chance to show their skills on a 655m course. The Slopestyle athlete is expected to show jumps, tricks and big air using a course that consists of rails and a variety of jumps.
