The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics live stream and TV schedule brings Team USA vs. Canada to viewers on Friday afternoon in a riveting semifinals matchup. The two teams met four years ago in the Gold Medal Game at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, with Canada besting the United States thanks to Sidney Crosby in overtime. Now they'll meet again, with the loser heading to the Bronze Medal Game and the winner heading to the Gold Medal Game Sunday. The latest televised and live stream Winter Olympics coverage arrives courtesy of NBC.
According to a Feb. 21 ESPN.com report, one of the finalists for Sunday’s Gold Medal Game has already been decided in Sochi. Sweden defeated Finland 2-1 in a game held at 7 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. All of the goals were scored in the second period including Erik Karlsson’s tie breaker with 3:34 left in the period. While not this year’s favorite, Sweden was the 2006 Olympics hockey champion and now awaits either the United States or Canada.
Another ESPN.com report indicates that Team USA won’t have Paul Martin in the lineup for today’s game. The Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman will be replaced in the lineup by Justin Faulk of the Carolina Hurricanes. As of this report, it’s not clear what is wrong with Martin to have him out of the lineup. Faulk has yet to play in any of the first four games for the United States.
On the other side, the big story has been Canada’s loss of John Tavares. The New York Islanders star will miss the rest of the Olympics and NHL season due to a tough knee injury suffered in Canada’s victory over Latvia. Tavares was the third-leading scorer in the National Hockey League for the Islanders, a team at least 10 points out of a playoff spot as of this report.
Aside from the injuries, these are two evenly matched lineups full of NHL stars. The U.S. won Group A, then defeated Czech Republic 5-2 in the quarterfinals a few days ago. Canada won Group B including an overtime win, and the victory over Latvia in the quarterfinals. Odds for today’s game are close, with the United States now -120 favorites over Canada. Earlier odds had both teams at -110. The over/under total for the game is at 5.5 goals.
