On Tuesday the International Olympic Committee (IOC) stated in a news release that final preparations for the XXII Winter Olympic Games to be held in Sochi, Russia were under way with the building of facilities for the Games on schedule and without any serious delays or obstacles reported by Sochi’s Olympic committee.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, who is the President of the Sochi Organizing Committee remarked, “The preparations are going well and everybody is working incredibly hard to make sure that we reach all of our targets. We have received positive feedback at every stage. We are entering the final phase of preparations. The sports venues are close to completion and life in Sochi is very exciting at the moment.”
According to the IOC some of the facilities are already being used for other various winter sporting events.

Previously on Monday the Sochi Olympic Committee released information on the torch for the Sochi Games, including images and specifications. For the torch relay, the committee is planning to have 14,000 torch bearers, with a separate torch for each of them to carry.

Continuing, he said, “The Sochi 2014 torch combines traditional Russian motifs with the very latest technical know-how in the field of design.
