Two days after an impressive 4-0 season-opening victory over IUPUI the RedHawks (2-0) downed Morehead State (1-1) by the exact same score Sunday afternoon in Oxford. This time, four different 'Hawks did the scoring for Miami.
The first score of the day came just past the 11:00 minute mark, when Kelsey Dinges was the recipient of a downfield pass that she fired at the net. After bouncing off the post it rolled into the net for the early lead. It ended up being the only score of the half, but Miami did outshoot Morehead 14-2 in the period.
In the 63rd minute, Jess Kodiak earned her first goal of the season when the RedHawks took advantage of a bad clear by the Eagles, allowing Kodiak to take a pass from Kayla Zakrzewski and drive the ball into the net. The lead was pushed to 3-0 in the 74th minute when Emily Hyde scored on a breakaway. The final score of the day came on a penalty kick by Katy Dolesh, already her third goal of the season. The opportunity was granted when Courtney Clarke was taken down inside the box by an Eagle defender. The final margin in shots taken was 25-6 in favor of Miami.
Freshman goalkeeper Allison Norenberg was the star in the net once again, as she stopped all three shots that the Eagles put on goal, earning her second career shutout in as many games.
Next weekend, the RedHawks will go on their first road trip of the season, visiting Xavier (0-2) on Friday and Eastern Kentucky (0-1) on Sunday.
