SoCal college launches new certificate program in social media this fall

We share so much of our lives on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. People post pictures of their #yummy lunch on Instagram for likes and some people tweet everything they are doing on twitter. As social media ties closer to our everyday life and our jobs, more students take Social Media Marketing major because they want to be on the leading edge of what it's becoming.

According to University Times, the California State University, Los Angeles newspaper, the school created the course "Introduction to Social Media Marketing" and its certificate program because "of growing demand for professionals who are savvy social media users and can apply it to their jobs."

In the course, the students will learn to create mobile marketing apps, integrate social media into marketing plans, and developing a new business using social media. They will also gain digital and social media skills; technical aspects of social networks; knowledge to design and implement a social media strategy; the application of social media tools into marketing initiatives and other strategic business initiatives.

Michael Germano, an adjunct faculty at California State University, Los Angeles said in University Times, “The program will prepare students for careers that may not even currently exist by instilling in them a sense of the dynamism inherent to the integration of technology with marketing.”

According to the Course Catalog of California State University, Los Angeles, The course "surveys usage of social media tools and technology for marketing purposes. Studies the relevance and importance of these tools to new and emerging marketing processes. Some Sections may be Technologically Mediated." The class meets every Tuesday night, 6:10-10 p.m. from September 26 to December 14.
