Sober New Year's Eve

See also

New Year’s Eve is a night that is typically associated with drinking as a part of the celebration, but this isn’t the only way to have a fun evening. In fact, it isn’t even the most ideal way, considering the fact that many of those who drink on New Year’s Eve will over-indulge and spend the first day of the new year with a hangover and possibly, one or more regrets regarding their actions the night before. The following are some ideas you can use for having a fun and alcohol-free New Year’s Eve.

*Designated Driving

For people who enjoy driving and are planning to be up late into the night, offering to be the designated driver for your friends and family can be a lot of fun. You will get to visit, at least briefly depending on the length of the drive, with many of the people that you care for and you will also get the satisfaction of ensuring that they all arrive home safe and sound at the end of the night.

*Friends Volunteer Night

One of the most fun things that a person can do is to get together with good friends and another is to help others. Combine the two and you have an excellent way to spend the last day of the year. There is not only the spirit of camaraderie in spending time with those that you care about and enjoy, but there is also the great feeling that you get from helping others. Some wonderful places to volunteer are homeless shelters, soup kitchens, retirement homes, care centers, hospitals, or veteran organizations.

*Makeover Night

What better way to start a new year than with a feeling of a new you? A makeover night will refresh, renew, and rejuvenate and is great fun when spent with several of your closest friends. Manicures, pedicures, facials, hair removal, self-tanner, a healthy workout, and a nice meal can have you waking up to a new year feeling your very best.

*”Fancy” Outings

If you are like most people, you don’t dress to the nines and head out for a night on the town on a regular basis. This is a really fun way to exit the old year and enter the new. The opera, a play, a ballet, an upscale restaurant, or another venue that you prefer will give you a very special night and memories to take with you long after New Year’s Eve has ended.

*Crafting the Year

If you and a couple of your friends enjoy crafts, you can host a craft night. Think about the memories that you have of the past year and whatever your preferred craft is, incorporate these memories into something that you create.

*Juice Bar Parties

Part of the excitement and sense of celebration that has many people imbibing in alcoholic beverages on New Year’s Eve is found in the beauty and uniqueness of the fancy drinks that they’re carrying around. This same beauty and uniqueness can be found in drinks, minus the alcohol. Juice bar parties, where guests are given choices of a wide variety of fun drinks (not only juices) are a great way to spend New Year’s Eve.

*Resolution Parties

If you are a person who makes those yearly resolutions to enhance and better yourself, you can spend New Year’s Eve getting them set in stone and make a party out of it. Get a few of your friends together who are also resolution-makers and have a gathering that is focused around the preparation of resolutions and coming up with plans to help ensure success.

*Game Night

Whether you are with family, friends, or a combination of the two, it is a great deal of fun to have a game night on New Year’s Eve. Get out the cards, the dice, the board games, the electronic game players, or whatever other game supplies you are going to be using and get ready for a night of friendly competition!

*Make a Movie

A really fun way to spend New Year’s Eve is to make a movie, featuring yourself, your family, and your friends. Have everyone take turns talking about the memories that they have of the ending year and the hopes and dreams that they have for the following one.

There are many things that you can do rather than drink alcohol on New Year’s Eve that will be fun and festive, including those suggested in this article. By passing on the alcohol, you are also ensuring that the first day of the upcoming year will be spend free of a hangover or the regrets and embarrassments that can occur when you’ve over-indulged. Have a happy New Year’s Eve and an outstanding New Year!
