It may be time for a good ole murder mystery on "General Hospital". With actress Kelly Sullivan departing her role as Connie Falconeri, all indications have pointed to the character being killed off. The August 23 episode ended with Sonny (Maurice Benard) finding Connie on the floor at Crimson covered in blood. If she dies, someone in Port Charles will be responsible for her murder, but who?
The last "whodunit" murder mystery in Port Charles was the murder of Dr. Lisa Niles who tormented the lives of Patrick and Robin. It was discovered that Patrick's brother, Matt Hunter, killed Lisa in a drunken rage. This potential murder mystery, however, may prove to be a bit more dramatic as the victim would be a long time character and someone fans have connected with over the years. It would've made more since for someone to want the "wild" Connie dead, but why would someone want the "new" and mentally stable Connie dead?
Well, when Connie ran the story in the Port Charles Press about Kiki (Kristen Alderson) not really being a Quartermaine, lives were changed, trust was broken and personalities changed. Connie was desperate to save her magazine and career and knew running the story would hurt those close to her, but she did it anyway. By the time she realized how deep the hurt, the story would cause, it was too late and the story made its way around Port Charles. The person it had the most instant impact on was A.J. Quartermaine.
A.J. lost control of ELQ once the truth about Kiki was leaked. He was angry, disappointed, embarrassed and lost. He instantly blamed Connie and even attempted strangling her at Sonny's house. Despite having people around him who would support him and be there for him even without ELQ, A.J. turned to the comfort of Alcohol. The more A.J. drowned his sorrows in "the bottom of a glass of vodka", the more he blamed Connie. It didn't help that Ava Jerome (Maura West) gave him some encouragement by telling him Connie needed to be stopped. Finally a drunken A.J. with gun in hand found his way to Crimson to confront Connie. He blamed her over and over again for destroying his life and promised to end hers. He was actually the last one seen with Connie before she was found by Sonny. All the evidence will stack up against A.J. and he may not even remember whether he shot her or not. Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) heard him say he would've killed Connie, Sonny found him physically attacking Connie, and his son Michael will know that he has a gun. But A.J. is the obvious choice and in soaps it is never that obvious. So who else would want Connie dead?
There is the second obvious choice in Ava Jerome. She is fierce, dangerous and will do whatever it takes to protect what's hers. Connie running the story got in the way of her attempt to take control of ELQ. It also revealed the real father of Kiki, Silas Clay (Michael Easton). Now that the secret is out, Kiki doesn't want anything to do with her, Silas is even more angry at her and Franco (Roger Howarth) is devastated that a daughter he thought was his isn't his at all. And this is all because of Ava Jerome, a woman with a hidden agenda and a woman who is still a mystery to everyone. Add in the face that Connie discovered that Derek Wells (William deVry) is really Ava's brother Julian Jerome, and there is even more reason for Ava to want Connie did. Let's remember, she did push A.J. into stopping Connie. Was it to cover her own attempt to destroy the woman who exposed her lie?
Derek would also be a suspect, but he was clearly seen at the hospital with Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Sam (Kelly Monaco). It doesn't mean he didn't order a hit on Connie if someone alerted him that she found out the truth. He has his own agenda and Connie finding out the truth about who he really is would ruin everything that he has set in place.
Some other possible suspects would include Morgan Corinthos. The story had a direct potential impact on him in the long run. And then there is Franco. Let's remember that he did disappear from the hospital after threatening Ava. If he is the same Franco he was before the surgery, then he is dangerous and capable. The art of Franco is death and how the victim is positioned. That could come to play a factor in any investigation.
So if Connie dies, who is the killer?
