The dream of seeing Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey in “50 Shades of Gray” was dashed when the actor pulled out after accepting the role but a new Calvin Klein ad gives us a glimpse of what could have been. Zap 2 It shared a picture on July 3 of Hunnam in the ad that proves why he was originally chosen for the steamy role.

The ad is for a new perfume, aptly titled Reveal, which shows a barely clad and clean-shaven Hunnam with his back to the camera. He is embracing a model in pose that gets the pulse beating quicker. The shot is remarkable in its simplicity and its ability to entice in undeniable.

After an exhaustive search for the right actor to bring Christian Grey, the lead character from E.L. James’ novel “Fifty Shades of Grey,” to life, it was announced on September 2, 2013 that Hunnam had beaten out dozens of other actors. Excitement built rapidly as news that the “Sons of Anarchy” star would be the lead in what was widely anticipated as the most erotic mainstream film being brought to the screen in some time.

The excitement turned to disappointment when Hunnam announced on October 12, 2013 that he had to pull out of the project because of scheduling conflicts between the movie and the ‘Sons’s’ filming schedule. Shortly afterward, Jamie Dornan was named as the new Christian Grey.

Last month, CBS News reported on Hunnam’s feelings on having to leave the project. "I felt like I had an interesting take on that character and felt like I could have done a good job of playing Christian Grey, otherwise I wouldn't have taken it on in the first place," Hunnam said.

He later added, "When you put the time into something like that and a character comes alive in your mind, it's heartbreaking not to be able to play him...It was definitely kind of heartbreaking having to say goodbye to that character and not bring it to life." So while the world will never see what Hunnam might have done with the role, we at least have the Calvin Klein ad as shared on Twitter.

Reveal, the fragrance is set to launch in September. “50 Shades of Grey” is set to open in theaters on Feb. 13, 2015 and Season 7 of “Sons of Anarchy” will premiere sometime in September 2014.
