So you think you can skate? Jeremy Abbott takes the U.S. Men's National title

Jeremy Abbott showed up to reclaim his National title on Sunday evening, and proved he deserved every bit of that title. Scoring a total of 273.58 points combined, he beat silver medalist Adam Rippon by over 30 points.

Abbott started on a strong note after his riveting short program performance, which had such creative and innovative choreography that it simply could not be beat in combination with his flawless jumps and intricate step sequences. Choreographed by Buddy and Benji Schwimmer of the popular TV show, “So You Think You Can Dance?” their dancer’s point of view was just what Abbott needed to separate his program from the rest of the pack.

Skating last in the long program, and following an impressive performance by his training partner Rippon, Abbott had complete control over the outcome of the event. For him, it proved to be a positive outcome after he nailed his opening quad toe loop, and went on to complete two triple Axels and three other triples.

Abbott’s inspiring long program, choreographed by him self, had a spellbinding effect on the audience. He easily soared into first place with a U.S. record score of 183.35 points.

Jeremy and Adam will be a solid U.S. team for the World Championships this spring, and with the scores Jeremy posted at Nationals, he has proved that he is capable of giving Patrick Chan and Daisuke Takahashi a run for their money at Worlds.
