So You Think You Can Dance's real effect

Bruised ribs, possible ruptured Achilles tendons, a new All-Star dancer, Mia Michaels’ new vocabulary and bold –yet- incisive commentary, plus extraordinary performances were among the surprises in So You Think You Can Dance last week.

Unfortunately, the greatest surprise was that Alex Wong, one of the show’s favorite contestants, was leaving the show due to a lacerated Achilles tendon. When asked if it hurt, Alex answered that only in his heart. Alex thanked all people that had participated in his journey and named specially, fellow contestant and best friend, Kent Boyd. Alex rather than feeling hurt and resentful about his luck, he acted so humbly and grateful for his experience. It was remarkable.

As well as Alex, the other contestants appear to be faithful students that only long to be in the show not to win, but to be touched by the exceptional teachers/choreographers that will help them enrich their crafts.

Such is the magical touch of these teachers that Jose was deeply moved after his performance with partner Lauren Gottlieb, choreographed by Mandy Moore. His reaction was similar to that of Legacy Perez, after dancing choreography by Mia Michaels last season.

Choreographer Dave Scott was able to free Adechike’s sense of joy on the dance floor, empowering him to have his best performance up to date. Last week, Mr. Scott did it again with Kent Boyd. Kent was great in Scott’s Hip Hop piece, and developed a style that was smooth, funky and cool, which singled him out among other contestants.

Together, Kent and fellow contestant Lauren danced the magic of Travis Wall. Wall somehow inspires his dancers to connect so deeply, their performances become intimate, charged with a candid emotional energy that seems real. He makes you want to be them. He caused the same effect on Jeanine and Jason last season. As if dancers fell in love with each other after dancing his pieces.

There is something beautiful to be said about SYTYCD’s real effect, something that goes beyond magnificent dancers, extraordinary choreography, and gorgeous performances. In a world of “Survivor”, “The Hills” and “Yo’ Mama”, there it comes, flying through the skies, with its red cape, “So You Think You Can Dance”, a show in which plain morality, decency and respect are never compromised. One in which its participants display camaraderie, honesty, humanity, humility friendship, excellence and hard work. It is great to see that these young, generous, giving human beings are the future. We're doing good America.

I LOVE YOUR FRANKNESS, BEAUTIFUL WAY OF GIVING YOURSELF TO EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO LISTEN, ACCURATE EXPRESSION OF WHO YOU ARE!!!!!

I can agree more. Alex for sure is going to be missed and I can't wait to see part two of Alex in SYTYCD. BTW Beautiful article.

Frankness???? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahaah!!!!!!!!!! She is a clown and a liar. She can't prove what she claims (that she was considered the #1 dancer in your country.) Yeah right!!
I bet my life on it that the comments have been posted by the writer, her friends or family. "I love your writing.. oohhhh, you are so right, keep writing, it's so moving" Anyone who watched the show would be so right! We contacted the Examiner and she doesn't work for them. She doesn't even get paid to copy blog. What a Loser.

let's see - you call yourself "yeahright" and then you seem to be fond of saying "yeahright" in your posts. you have an astonishing wit. not to mention an obsession with this writer that borders on cyberstalking. what did this person do to you that has made you so full of barely articulate bile? turn you down for a date, perhaps? of course, that presupposes that you occasionally leave your house/apartment/mom's basement.

i look forward to your next "post."

  • Yeahright 1 year ago

Nope. WRONG. The funny thing about "reader" is that it's just another attempt on behalf of the writer to pump herself up. Clown. When are you going to prove what you claim in your BIO? The fact is that you were never considered to be the #1 dancer in "your" country. My job, and I do get paid for it, is to confront clowns like you who do not get paid for blogging or reiterating what the show's commentators have already told us.

yeahright - well, you're wrong about me being the writer. maybe that would make it easier for you to be angry, but alas, you're off the mark. and could you at least try to use a logical argument? there's no way you get paid to "confront clowns". if that actually paid, then i'd be making six figures just dealing with your ignorant behind. now, shall we return to planet earth to discuss why you don't like this writer, or would you like to continue to make stuff up? it's a little transparent, but it does save me the trouble of driving on the 405 to get my daily dose of crazy.

and if you'd like my opinion on this writer, she isn't my favorite writer on the net, but she's growing with each week, not unlike the dancers on the show. she's improving her ability to express her insight and successive articles may bear this out. an important thing about this column is that it gives an entree into a world many (like me) knew little about. i look forward to watching her progress.

You actually think by lying that you can avoid revealing who and what we are.

You are insecure and fearful of your true nature. Your lying and attempts to use the influence of words to override the truth clearly shows that you are lost.

Your failure to support your statement, that you were considered to be #1 in your country and that you are fashion designer have left us no other choice but to run a public search for your records. I can’t wait to see what we discover.

  • reader 1 year ago

hey, yeahright, since having a discussion with you about whether or not i'm the writer is akin to discussing metatheory with a lhasa apso, i'd like to just watch your posts to see what you "discover" about the background of this writer - who is apparently me.

i'd like to offer a bit of info that the writer can add to her bio for this site (which, of course, yeahright will "unearth" in their exhaustive search): she's being cyberstalked by a nutcase named yeahright.

and yeahright, i noticed you also like to refer to yourself as "we." if you are indeed two people, then why don't you prove it? see how crazy that sounds?

i'll say this - if you are two people, then that gives me hope for the world. because it means that no matter how off the reservation, mayor-of-crazytown strange a person gets, there's someone out there for them. touching.

@reader, the issue is that the writer claims to have been considered #1 in her country. Which is not true. She was asked to prove and she can't because as I said, we have discovered that she is a liar. We are not two, we are a group. But that is not here or there. The issue is and always has been the writer's claims on her bio. Plus, she claims to be a fashion designer, another lie. You write as if you actually know the truth about the writer, and yet you do not offer proof. You write just like the writer, same attempts to deviate the reader from the tryth. If you need hope or are looking for hope, you may want to rethink your position and follow someone who is not a liar.

  • reader 1 year ago

yeahright, you claim that your "group" has discovered her to be a liar. well, why don't you offer some of this "proof", as you're so fond of demanding from others? give it a shot. i'm ready to be dazzled.

and i write just like the writer? because i "deviate the reader's attention from the truth?" i suppose that's a ham-fisted accusation of sophistry; you have yet to form a workable sentence, much less an argument. and then you say i write like i know the writer, yet i don't offer proof. just because i'm calling you out for being a deranged cyberstalker with an unhealthy obsession doesn't mean i think i know the "truth" about the writer, nor am i required to offer proof that she is who she says she is because i refuse to care about your claims in the first place. why all the hysterics?

Our search has discovered that you have been married twice. Clearly something that you are not good at. How does it feel to have not one but two failed marriages? Our search also discovered that you filed bankruptcy in 2004. Let’s see... You apply for credit, you promise to pay, you are trusted, and then you decide that you are not going to honor your word and stiff them. What a perfect example of manipulation and dishonesty. In addition, you have been canned more time than tuna. You can’t even hold a job!!! What do you do?... trick your employer long enough to apply for unemployment or are you simply fired? The problem with you is that you lie about yourself and it is only a matter of time before people who do not know you discover the real you. So, I’ll ask again, who exactly considered you to be the #1 dancer in your country? Our search is almost complete. Be right back. (We will gladly pdf proof and post a link so that everyone can see, that we don't lie)
