The Season six Top 8 performed on the week seven show of "So You Think You Can Dance," December 8, 2009. Along with two couple performances, the Top 8 also performed solo performances.
The top solo performances in my opinion were Kathryn, Russell and Jakob. Each one stood out so much among the rest of the pack, especially Kathryn who was absolutely beautiful and showed such passion. She also had amazing choreography. The surprise solo of the night was definitely Ryan. I loved the he finally added moves beyond footwork, and I loved that he took his few moments after his solo to beg viewers to vote for Ashleigh. So romantic!
Ashleigh was unable to perform for the night because of a dislocated shoulder. Fans of Ashleigh are still urged to vote for her this week because she will hopefully be able to return in future weeks. To make up for her absence, Russell performed with one of the choreographers.
First performance
Kathryn and Ryan - Disco
- Nigel - Ryan was a little stiff; Performance didn't do it for him
- Mary - Kathryn is peaking at the right time; Believe the chemistry; Movement was together at all times; Ryan had perfect partner work
- Adam - Kathryn looked gorgeous; Routine was very fun
- Manchester TV Examiner - Loved the lifts; Wasn't feeling it in the beginning but really enjoyed the performance when the music picked up; Don't think Kathryn was as strong as she has been at other dances because of some sloppy arm work
Mollee and Jakob - Viennese Waltz
- Nigel - Pair had a beautiful constant flow needed for the Viennese Waltz
- Mary - Absolutely nothing ordinary about the pair together; Jakob's partner work was fantastic; Mollee was priceless tonight
- Adam - Could've watched the performance for two more hours; Mollee is finally peaking
- Manchester TV Examiner - Beautiful performance; Mollee showed so much maturity; Mollee's kicks were beautiful; Jakob made me speechless, he is just so amazing to watch move; Jakob glides across the stage
Ellenore and "Legacy" - Contemporary
- Nigel - Thought pushing the dancers this far was dangerous in a good way; Thinks this may be an Emmy nomination waiting to happen for the choreographer
- Mary - Loved the choreography; Ellenore was fearless; "Legacy" was amazing for not his style
- Adam - Completely murdered the routine; Awesome
- Manchester TV Examiner - "Legacy" continues to impress me more and more every week with his intensity and passion; Loved the over/under table move; Incredible choreography; Ellenore was such a star
Russell - Hip-Hop
- Nigel - Happy that he found time to smile and perform in such a tough routine
- Mary - So on point; Attacked every sing second
- Adam - Russell was smokin'; Performance level was high; Great energy
- Manchester TV Examiner - This was the place for Russell, obviously; You could tell he looked confident, in control and comfortable; Amazing job; Awesome to watch
Second Performances
Kathryn and Ryan - Cha-Cha-Cha
- Nigel - Kathryn looked like a Latin ballroom dancer; Ryan looked magnificent; Connection was perfect
- Mary - The whole floor was on fire from this routine; Chemistry and power were amazing; Both looked effortless; Would've never guessed Kathryn wasn't a ballroom dancer
- Adam - One of the best ballroom routines the show has ever had; Connection was incredible; Kathryn is hitting an all time high as a performer
- Manchester TV Examiner - Hot and steamy; This was the perfect genre for this pair; Would've liked to have seen more Cha-Cha-Cha because the pieces that they did do were so strong
Mollee and Jakob - Broadway
- Nigel - Mollee should go to Broadway because she fit so well in the genre; Style was perfect for the pair
- Mary - Fell right in to the style; Mollee captured the style; Leg kicks and leaps were identical
- Adam - Mollee's leg kicks were excellent; Eyes were on Mollee the entire time, although he still believes Jakob is one of the greatest dancers the show has ever had
- Manchester TV Examiner - The chair slide was so cute; Mollee was great, but in the Broadway genre it was hard to even notice that there was anyone else on stage other than Jakob; Jakob's technique, his moves, his facial expressions, they all made for an incredible performance
Ellenore and "Legacy" - Hip-Hop
- Nigel - Didn't get enough dancing; Dancing that was done was not together
- Mary - Loved the beginning of the routine but the love turned to disappointment; Didn't look very synchronized
- Adam - The number didn't do it for him
- Manchester TV Examiner - This performance just didn't do it for me; "Legacy" was incredible in it; Ellenore just stood out in the wrong way; Not the couple's best performance; Didn't like not being able to see their faces
Russell - Bollywood
- Nigel - Russell stole the show from his partner, who is an expert at the Bollywood style
- Mary - Perfect way to end the night; Hit everything he was given; Made it look fun and easy
- Adam - Loved finally having a performance that was just dancing; Execution was excellent; Blew joy out of every point
- Manchester TV Examiner - Was surprised by how well Russell did with this genre and how much I liked him in this genre; He was sold and strong through the whole performance, which is really important for the Bollywood style
