You've heard of it and you know that it's in Mexico, but you're just not sure what exactly it is.
The Life and Death Festival, as it is known, is a celebration held every year from October 30th to November 2nd. It is significant because it revives the customs and artistic expressions of a whole host of ethnicities from the Mayan Region of Mexico. The activities related to All Soul's Day, include families visiting the cemeteries to be at their loved ones' graves and bring them fruit and flowers. Food is also given - often the favorite food of the person who passed.
Each year, for the full four days, the Festival's guest state (there's a different one each time), shares its traditions with the various indigenous communities from the State of Quintana Roo and the XCaret Park's visitors who come from round the world.
You can enjoy traditional dancing, traditional food, singing and spectacular, bright, ornate shows. One this group saw was the grief and joy over a clown who died. In Mexico, death is not the end, in fact it is really more the beginning. The beginning of a new life, even if that life is in the afterworld.
Don't miss it! For you, it will be the beginning of an adventure you will always remember!
