Snowbird to play Cupid for skiers on snowy Valentine's Day

For anyone who has hoped the lift-line corral sequence would put a cute skier in the singles line on your chairlift ride, Snowbird Ski Resort plans to help your matchmaking fate on Valentine's Day. On Tuesday, the Utah ski area will add a new lift line intended for unattached singles to the Peruvian Express chairlift. Skiers and boarders of both sexes should be in a good mood, because a couple inches of fresh snow is forecast for Monday night with another 3 inches possible during the day on Tuesday. A forecast high of just 27 degrees should also produce favorable cuddling conditions.

Once on the Peruvian chairlift, singles will in effect have an 8-minute speed-date for about 2,400 vertical feet up the mountain. Successful speed-dates could even proceed at the top of the lift through the romantically lit "Tunnel of Love," also known as the Peruvian Tunnel that goes 600 feet through the mountain to the Mineral Basin side of the resort.

“The Valentine’s singles line is a unique way of speed dating, and Snowbird is the perfect place to meet fun friends,” said Dave Fields, the resort's vice president of resort operations who proposed to his now-wife on a chairlift.

In celebration of the special day, adult all-day chairlift tickets will be sold at a discounted rate of $40 on Valentine’s Day. The normal chairlift ticket price is $72, plus an additional $6 for access to the tram.

After Peruvian Express closes for the day, Snowbird is hosting an après singles social at El Chanate, Snowbird’s Mexican restaurant, located on Level A of The Cliff Lodge at the base. When guests mention the singles line, El Chanate will offer buy-one-get-one-free appetizers and entrees throughout the evening.

For already attached couples, special Valentine’s Day menus will be available at The Wildflower, The Lodge Bistro and the newly remodeled Aerie restaurants at the resort.
