Snow in the mountains

Many feet of beautiful heavy white snow fell steadily in the mountains of Pine Mountain Club, Frazier Park and Lebec these past few days, making driving treacherous. Cinder has not been spread in the bedroom community of Pine Mountain Club, although the Mil Potrero Highway had been plowed. The I-5, providing accecss to the mountain communities has been closed on and off since the the storms began. Calling California Department of Transportation, Caltrans, for up the minute conditions is recommended: 1-800-427-7623. You may also access their website at http://www.dot.ca.gov/contactus.htm.

More snow is expected today, January 22 with clear skies Saturday and Sunday. A ten day forecast can be found at http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/93222?from=today_topnav_Golf

Enjoy safe snowplay by traveling with chains or cables for your tires, snow studded winter tires, a shovel and sand. Sand can be thrown down on top of ice if you find you are not getting enough traction. Kitty litter makes a acceptable substitute if you do not have sand or cinders available.
