Snow storm results in school bus overturned

Yesterdays acute snow storm resulted in the overturning of a Mariposa High School bus, on Highway 49 near Coulterville.

The California Highway Patrol during their investigation determined the bus driver, Michael Brocchini, was driving at an unsafe speed at the time. There was approximately one and one-half inches of snow on the roadway at the time.

Brocchini lost control while making a right hand turn at 20 to 30 mph. The bus was equipped with automatically engaged tire chains, and the chains were deployed at the time of the accident. The bus went 30 feet down an embankment on its side.

Of the sixteen students on the bus, who were 14 to18 years-old, five students were reported by MyMotherLode to have incurred minor injuries, while the Modesto Bee reported only four students were injured along with the bus driver. None of the injured required hospitalization.
