The 22nd annual Zehnder's Snowfest in Frankenmuth, Michigan will give visitors the chance to experience larger-than-life snow and ice masterpieces created by professional snow and ice carvers from around the world starting Wednesday, January 23 through Monday, January 28. Admission is free. It is approximately a 4 hour drive from Cleveland to Frankenmuth.
Zehnder's Snowfest Host to one of the top snow sculpting events in North America, it is estimated Zehnder's Snowfest has attracted more than 2 million guests to the international snow and ice sculpture competitions during its 22 years. This event will also include the National Collegiate Ice Carving Championship and the High School Snow Sculpting Competition.
One of the highlights of Snowfest will be the 125 ice block creation by Greg Butanski, an award-winning certified Master Ice Sculptor and his team that will be completed by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 25. The sculpture will be in the Zehnder's Restaurant parking lot on Main St. Be sure to stop by and watch as as it is being created. Other ice carvings and snow sculptures will be displayed throughout the town.
Other Snowfest activities include a free petting zoo and pony rides ($2) in the Children's Play Area. Visitors can also enjoy a Putt-Putt golf course with ice carving challenges to play through at each hole of the course. Cost is $2.
There will also be a children's snow sculpting event and personalized ice blocks carved for children. See your name in ice!
A Warming Tent will be provided for visitors featuring snacks, hot and cold beverages, bingo, and live entertainment including a performance by the 338th Army Band on Friday, January 25 from 10:30 a.m. - noon. There will also be country and Christian music concerts in addition to a karaoke contest.
Snowfest will also feature a fireworks display on Saturday, January 26 at 6:45 p.m.
One special attraction at Snowfest will be the appearance of 16 members of the 2012 American League baseball champions team, the Detroit Tigers on Friday, January 25 from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.
On Monday, January 28, Snowfest will be hosting the 21st annual Chef's Hot Food Competition and Tasting from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Zehnder's Restaurant. This year's theme is 'Under the Tuscan Moon." Admission is $30.
