Snowfall in Tennessee
You have read the headline correctly. Snow for late on Thanksgiving seems somewhat likely. We are watching several forecasting models and they are indicating a chance for some frozen precipitation on the evening of Thanksgiving. The week following Thanksgiving is definitely trending with much below average temperatures.
A little background on snow in Tennessee. As many of you know, forecasting snow in Tennessee is a difficult task. Many times the right ingredients appear to come together and then, in the hours before the event, the low-pressure system moves either too far south or too far north causing the failure of precipitation to materialize. Other times, the cold air just doesn't get here in time and the rain moves out before changeover.
A powerful storm is expected to move into the Plains this week and dive into the Ohio and Tennessee River Valley by late Wednesday into Thursday. The ensuing cold air might be just enough to turn precipitation into light snow by late Thursday night.
