Snow finally arrives across nation for starved skiers

For skiers at most U.S. resorts, the 2011-12 ski season has ranged from passable to pitiful. A mid-January shift in the weather pattern, however, has brought long-awaited major snowfall to ski areas across the country. As of Saturday morning, Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont recorded 8 fresh inches of snow in the past 72 hours and Alta Ski Area in Utah reported 21 new inches so far from the current storm. 

Numerous resorts in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Colorado and Wyoming also picked up double-digit totals. Heavy snow is predicted to continue through the weekend.
