The ski resorts in Tahoe all received a bit of snow out of the last storm that briefly blew through last week. From just a dusting to 14" at Squaw Valley and Boreal, the white gold was most welcome.
The snowsports crowd was all smiles as the reports came in. While this doesn't make it a sure bet that anyone will be skiing by Thanksgiving, it's a start.
The overnight temperatures have been cold enough to preserve the snow that hit the slopes. Northstar and Boreal announced that they had turned on the snow making cannons. Anything that can be done to get things going for the coming season is good.
Just for a bit of early season fun, Steve Hemphill, PR Director at Sierra-at-Tahoe, announced that they will have the second annual Snowball Fight: A Dodgeball Tournament.
Hemphill says to join them on "Thursday, November 8th at Brothers Bar & Grill at 7pm for an epic dodge ball tournament." Brothers Bar & Grill is located at 888 Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe. It is a local favorite and it is bound to be crowded.
"Team space is limited so sign up early by calling 530.543.3139 or email@example.com to get your team dialed in, a list of rules, and to be added into the Sierra Snowball Fight tournament. Teams will compete in round-robin fashion until one team stands victorious with a trophy, prizes, and enough bragging rights to take you well into the winter season," said Hemphill.
Brooke Rose up at Northstar isn't counting the days, but does note that Northstar will start turning the lifts in "...three weeks, one day and 20 hours." Check out the video, courtesy of Brooke and watch the snow cannons working the night shift.
How will the season play out? We'll know more come next spring.
