Snow falling, accumulating in central Mississippi with winter storm

Update: Winter storm blankets central Mississippi in up to 4 inches of snow

Snow is falling and accumulating across central Mississippi as winter storm unfolds.

Many areas across the Jackson metro have reported at least an inch to more than two inches of snow as of 6 a.m. Thursday with accumulations on roads, bridges and vehicles.

Several accidents have been reported on Interstate 20 in west Jackson and on roadways in the Yazoo City area due to the slick conditions.

The winter storm warning continues until 9 a.m. Thursday for central Mississippi including the Jackson metro and until noon for portions of eastern Mississippi as the cold core upper-level low pressure system, responsible for the snow, tracks across the region.

Total snow accumulations of two to three inches with locally higher amounts up to four inches is expected by the time this system shifts out of the state.

Outside of the winter storm warning, winter weather advisories also continue into 9 a.m. Thursday for around an inch of snow or less for areas across portions of southern Mississippi down to the Highway 84 corridor.

Many schools are delaying or canceling school altogether due to the hazardous road conditions across the region.
