A snow emergency has been issued by DC Government, and takes effect at 7 a.m. During the snow emergency, vehicles which are parked on snow emergency routes after 7 a.m. will be ticketed and towed.

Meteorologist are predicting between five and eight inches of snow inside the District, and an additional four outside of the District; but within the DC metro area.

A DC resident who have his/her car towed while it's on a snow emergency route can expect to pay a hefty fine before their car is released to them. The government's website states that fees and fines could be:

•$250 ticket for the snow emergency violation.
•$100 tow fee.
•$20 per day storage fee.

The snow emergency is necessary for the District Snow Team (Department of Public Works [DPW] and Department of Transportation [DOT]) to be able to clear the snow emergency routes from curb to curb. The city has 287 snowplows that will be on the streets, beginning at 9 p.m.

DPW Director William Howland, Jr said in a release. “We are ready, our equipment is ready and we have plenty of salt."

The snow emergency will remain in effect until the mayor's office lists the emergency.
