Viewership for Tuesday's premiere of "Snooki & JWoWW 2" was down from the first season's premiere -- but it still managed to top its time slot. According to ratings reports, released today (Wednesday) by Nielsen, 2.08 million viewer tuned in to watch "Snooki & JWoWW Season 2 Episode 1" last night on MTV. That's down from the "Jersey Shore" spin-off's June 2012 premiere which was watched by 2.36 million viewers.
There is some good news, though. Viewership for the MTV reality show is up from the first season's finale -- and rather significantly. The season 1 finale, which aired on September 13, 2012, drew a mere 1.55 million viewers. It was the least watched episode of the entire season and ended the series' premiere season on a low note. In addition, a spokesperson for MTV tells Examiner.com, among women ages 18-24, viewership was 9 percent from its series debut and up 31 percent vs. its season one average. The Season 2 premiere was also the number two cable series all day behind "Pretty Little Liars"
It's very likely the sophomore season of "Snooki & JWoWW" will see a ratings spike over the next few weeks. Snooki is expected to give birth to her and Jionni LaValle's son, Lorenzo, during one of the next few episodes. Even viewers who have tired of "Jersey Shore" and its spin-offs are likely to return, out of curiosity, to see such a television event. The birth of Snooki's baby was well publicized and even landed her and her newborn on the cover of People magazine.
"Snooki & JWoWW 2" airs Tuesdays on MTV at 10 p.m.
