Snook stocks were damaged severely in the winter freeze of 2010 and snook season was actually suspended. Since then much discussion has taken place on whether or not to open the season again until stocks rebounded.
After some recovery time snook season was opened on the Atlantic Coast on September 17, 2010. The season closed again on its customary date of December 15, but instead of the traditional east coast opening on February 1, the season remained closed through August 2011. The east coast snook season opened again on September 1, 2012 and remained open until December 15th.
The February 1 opening continues snook harvest until June 1, 2013.
Florida east coast snook regulations:
Slot limit applies – not less than 28 inches or more than 32 inches
Bag limit – one snook per day
Special rules - Snook permit required for harvest when saltwater license required. Illegal
to buy or sell snook. Snatch hooks and spearing prohibited.
