North of Seattle in Snohomish County, the Kunz family were reunited with their chocolate Labrador retriever named Buddy late Monday afternoon; their dog was heard whining beneath the rubble reported komonews.com.

The family had been attending a baseball game at the time of the mudslide. So far 16 people have been confirmed dead. The devastating mudslide moved the family's Darrington home 150 feet away from its foundation. The home was completely destroyed.

Buddy was covered in dirt and had some scratches and bruises, but he seemed to have made it through the terrible catastrophe. Quinton Kunz stated:

"I just broke down crying, really happy that my dog was alright. I'm just shocked how well he did against my whole house falling on him."

As the rescuers pulled the dog out of the rubble, Buddy seemed disoriented, but soon shook himself off and appeared very happy to have been reunited with his family.

The family's Aunt Linda was killed in the mudslide. Her husband Gary managed to survive.

The Kunz family are now helping other people find their lost pets. The family cat has not been found, although Quinton found his Aunt Linda's dog on Monday.
