(Tampa Bay, FL) An update on an item in Monday’s column about the upcoming Broadcaster’s Club luncheon in Sarasota on February 10, SNN GM Linda Desmarais has been added to the panel which will talk about the state of over-the-air broadcasting. Ms. Desmarais runs the local Sarasota news cable outlet which formerly belonged to the Sarasota Herald Tribune. She will join former WTSP President and GM Larry Clamage, former WNEW radio newsman (New York) Mike Eisgrau and broadcast execs Irwin Starr and Burt Sherwood on the dais. Visit www.broadcastersclub.com for reservations.
While the majority of people watch the Super Bowl on television, the national radio audience is still nothing to scoff at. Millions will listen to the game broadcast through the Dial Global network of stations with Kevin Harlan calling the play-by-play and former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason doing the color.
Other contributors to the full day of football broadcasting will be former NFL’ers Mark Malone and James Lofton, the “never afraid to ask the tough and uncomfortable question” Jim Gray and Scott Graham.
WSRQ 106.9 FM/1220AM in Sarasota is scheduled to air the Super Bowl broadcast.
Will Howard Stern have anything to say about St. Petersburg? He may not comment on that but he, along with the rest of the judging panel for NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” is scheduled to be on the St. Petersburg waterfront when the show holds auditions at the Mahaffey Theater April 2, 3 and 4.
