SNL holds auditions to add black female cast member

There has been much criticism and focus on Saturday Night Live’s lack of diversity when it comes to a black female cast member, but now all of that is about to soon change.

Show creator and executive produce, Lorne Michaels, is currently holding auditions to add a new cast member by January.

Cast members Kenan Thompson and Jay Pharoah have both spoken out expressing their concerns over the absence of a black female.

Thompson stated he did not want to do any more impressions of black women in drag and urged producers to just hire one instead.

There has not been a black female cast member since Maya Rudolph left the show in 2007, and the process to add a new member has been very meticulous—as this new member will be under national scrutiny.

The website Gothamist.com recently announced secret auditions that she show held specifically looking for a black cast member and also posted a group photo of the prospects on its website.
