'SNL' announces new 'Weekend Update' co-anchor

You won't recognize Colin Jost's name as a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" because Jost has been working behind the scenes as the show's head writer since 2012 after joining the writing staff in 2005. NBC announced today Jost will co-anchor "Weekend Update" along with Cecily Strong who was brought on in September.

As the show's longest recurring sketch, "Weekend Update" has popularized catchphrases from original anchor Chevy Chase's greeting, "Im Chevy Chase… and you're not," and Dennis Miller's "Good evening and what can I tell ya?" To the sign off most used through the years by various anchors including Tina Fey, "Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow."

Jost and Strong will share the update desk delivering a lampoon of current events and a new mantra perhaps beginning March 1. Get to know Colin before his SNL anchor debut by following him on Twitter @TheColinJost and check out the video above of his stand-up performance last year on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon."

Seth Meyers' long run with "Saturday Night Live" comes to an end following the Feb. 1 episode where he will take over as host of "Late Night" on Feb. 24 after Jimmy Fallon exits for the "Tonight Show."
