“Snitch” marks the return of Dwayne Johnson to the action genre. It deftly blends action, social issues and family drama into a compelling tale laced with action.
Johnson plays a dad whose teenage son ends up in trouble from something he didn’t do. Blamed for a drug distribution crime that brings with it a mandatory ten year sentence, Dad must step in. In order to protect his son, he agrees to go undercover. Working as an informant, he infiltrates a drug cartel putting everything he values including his family and his own life at risk.
Based on a true story often means we will find inspiration by the time the credits roll. Inspiration may be lacking but “Snitch” more than makes up for it in the way it brings indignation at the system into the forefront and focuses on how family values are put to the test during a crises, even if it means laying it all on the line. “Snitch” is definitely one of Johnson’s best performances.
