UPDATE:
It turns out, yesterdays vague post on the official Facebook page of "Sniper Elite V2" was a little misleading. The press release today clarified that the new update will actually include 4 additional modes for the already available online multiplayer as well as new maps. The downside is that local multiplayer will not be supported, meaning there is still no split screen mode. While disappointing, it is nice to see continued support for the title this long after the release.
Original Article:
When the highly anticipated "Sniper Elite V2" came out back in May, fans were shocked and disappointed by the lack of split screen support. This was worsened by a misprint on the back of the game case for the Xbox 360 version stating that there was, in fact, local support for up to 2 players. However a quick Google search or email to the developer, and it was quickly understood that cooperative local play didn't really exist. It sparked an absolute outrage by fans. Imagine if after "Goldeneye" or "Halo: CE", they decided to strip console multiplayer. With a series who's roots are so firmly planted in split screen, it would have likely crushed the series.
For "Sniper Elite V2", it likely did hurt them a little bit. Fortunately, though, the developers are taking steps to correct their mistake after viewing the massive outcry on their forums and social networking sites alike. Sometime in late October, the game will be getting a free update that will add support for couch multiplayer. It isn't set to be officially announced until tomorrow, so details are sparse, however it is confirmed by a post on their official Facebook page.
There's been minor debate over the wording of the announcement, as fans are worried that "Console Multiplayer" means split screen only for the other missions: "Kill Tally", "Bombing Run", and "Overwatch". It seems highly unlikely that "Rebellion" would make the same mistake twice and leave it out again, so it's a pretty safe bet that the aforementioned modes will be included along side local co-op campaign seeing as it was listed in the initial press release for multiplayer details prior to the games launch.
