'Sniper Elite 3' announced for all current gen and next generation consoles

In May of last year, sniper video game fans got their hands on "Sniper Elite V2". The game was a remake of the 2005 game "Sniper Elite", hence the "V2" in the title. The game pulled in okay reviews and respectable sales, so it's no surprise there's going to be a third game in the series.

According to a financial press release back in January by the company that owns the team behind "Sniper Elite V2", a new game is on the way sometime in 2014. The reason the news wasn't leaked in January was a simple one.

"We were hoping the news would remain quiet within the Italian financial community until we could formally announce the game which we plan to do soon," said a company rep to Joystiq.

The question remains, why is the next game titled "Sniper Elite 3" when the last game was just a remake of the first, and not an actual sequel? This is going to confuse a lot of gamers who start to look for the first game in the series and then the second, and realize there's some shenanigans going on.

"Sniper Elite 3" is expected to launch for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U, and Playstation 4 sometime in 2014.
