On a sunny spring day, Sniffapalooza touched down in Central Park West and started a two day twister if scent events for those in the know. They came from France, Spain, Singapore, and New Jersey to celebrate the glorious world of high end, bespoke perfume. It's a bit like NYFW, but everyone is friendly and fun and they feed you.
Founder and CEO Karen Dubin has convinced the fragrance world to throw open it's doors (and clean out it's sample closets) for the twice a year Sniffapalooza. Starting at the luxury retailer, Bergdorf Goodman, guests prowl around perfume counters sniffing, evaluating, and buying. Names like Robert Piguet (creator of Fracas) and Jean Patou (Joy) are the names of rock stars in this crowd. Perfumer Roja Dove was on hand, chrmingly kitted out in gold snakeskin blazer with black velvet lapels and dripping with diamonds. His fragrances (Nuwa, sold exclusively at Bergdorf's, retails for $995) are sold to an elite group, and yet he is the most charming gentleman that you could posibly meet. A whiff of his Bergamot scent left this examiner reeling with pleasure.
After a thorough tour of each counter, there was a raffle starring a $5,000 box of scent. Co-incidentally, the winner Kimberly Waters had invited me after I won her instagram contest. After the raffle's excitement, we bid Killian, Annick Goutal, and Armani Privee adieu and went to Brasserie 8 1/2 for a prixe fixe lunch, which is included in the ticket price. While lunch was being served, a steady stream of guest speakers entertained the crowd. Home decorating queen Tobi Tobin unveiled her new scent collection, Bravo's Chef Roble spoke about his first food-inspired scent Clique, and a talk about coming trends in fragrance from Amy Marks-McGee of trendincite.
After lunch, it was a leisurely stroll to Henri Bendel to sample absinthe and sniff Francois Damide's new collection. Then off to Krigler Perfumery at the Plaza to get acquainted with their newest, Lieber Moment 214. Giddy from scent, and sniffling a little, this perfume novice staggered to the finish line at Molton Brown just in time. Sore of foot, a person could enjoy a sea and glass of champagne while surveying the boutique. Between bites of fresh salad, and bakery treats, we were introduced to their Rhubarb & Rose Aroma Reeds, Ambrusca Cleansing Shower Oil, and product filled Pack & Pamper travel kit.
