Melvin Everson, R-Snellville - is serving his 4th year in the Georgia House of Representatives and recently announced he would run for State Labor Commissioner. Melvin Everson was recently at the GOP Convention on Hutchinson Island near Savannah, Georgia. Savannah Morning News writer Tom Barton called Melvin Everson the "obverse of Obama." [more]
Snellville Mayor, Jerry Oberholtzer visited the Naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Being Mayor of Snellville is a part-time job - his full time job is as an engineer. His firm is one of the finalists in bidding to design housing at the base. Mayor Oberholtzer voiced his personal opinion that the detainees should stay at Guantanamo Bay. [more]
In the investigation of the murder of Heather Strube, police have the white pick up truck in custody. A news report says they found it at a Lilburn GA home - the home of Heather Strube's in-laws. It's not definitive yet that it's the same truck - the GBI is doing testing on the vehicle. For Memorial Day, all City offices, with the exception of emergency services, will be closed on Monday, May 25th.
SNELLVILLE EVENTS & FUN 
The New London Theatre of Snellville will have its annual Buddy Awards show on Saturday, May 23rd at 8:00 pm. Social hour 7 pm until 8 pm. This is an event that gives the theatre the opportunity to thank those in the community who have helped the New London Theatre during the past year. The Buddy Awards event is free and public is invited, but there is limited seating, so reservations are required. RSVP by email: nltchair@yahoo.com. Beginning in June, the Regal Theater in Snellville (in the shopping center with Dunkin' Donuts on Hwy 78) will once again have their Free Family Film Festival.
