The new Fog City opens its doors on September 23, and here's a peek at the new menu they'll be serving. An exhibition kitchen with wood-fired oven and seven-foot grill will be a big influence on the food, according to the Fog folks. And virtually everything will be made in-house, including burger buns, hot sauces and American cheese.
As for the exterior, you'll recognize the shape, but the shiny diner facade has completely disappeared.
The orginal Fog City Diner was ahead of the curve, a trendy diner before diners got trendy. It starred in TV commercials and welcomed the hungry with a cheeky, "Get in here!" But really, when's the last time you ate there? Exactly. So who can blame Chef Bruce Hill (Bix, Picco, Pizzeria Picco and Zero Zero) and partners for deciding it was time to move on?
I'll report back after I've sampled the goods.
Fog City, 1300 Battery St., San Francisco; (415) 982-2000.
