Although everyday prices here are competitive, starting January 20, and running one week to January 26, there is an excellent 2010 Inventory Reduction Sale. Heritage offers bargain prices on 1,500 wines from around the world during this annual sale.
From the street, large signage on the building reads Discount Liquors, which can be misleading as 75% of this 14,000 square foot store is devoted to wine. Upon walking in the door, the large wine selection is obvious. Overhead signage by varietal and region guide you to your favorite wine destinations. In addition, there is a good size organic wine section and a premium boxed wine area.
In business since 1974, owners, Patti Jo Robinson and David Heller, run a no nonsense store. Their focus on selection, reasonable prices, and staff training hits the mark. We, as customers, benefit.
With wine, tasting is everything. Recognizing this, Heritage offers free wine tastings every Friday, 3 - 6 PM. Attendees can sample 3 wines and 1 spirit selected and offered on special by management. While you are sipping and swirling, give the ample employees an opportunity to put their weekly employee training sessions to work. Ask them your long-time or spur of the moment wine or spirit questions.
To find out about what’s going on at Heritage, you can sign up for the email newsletter. These often offer exceptional buys on pricier wines and spirits. If you live close to the store, you can check out Heritage's weekly advertisement in The Hub of The Denver Post. If you don't live in the immediate vicinity, check out the advertisement via the website. The website also offers other interesting tools such as informational articles, food/wine pairings and party planning tools.
Once you experience this store's charms, you will want to benefit from your purchases by signing up for the frequent buyer’s club, called The Heritage Value Card. When your expenditures on non-sale items at the store total $500, you receive $20 credit for in-store use. All customers can receive a 10% discount on non-sale case purchases of wine and liquor. Order delivery is available on some purchases during business hours.
When asked for "knock your socks off" selections around $15 or under, Heller offered these picks:
Carneros Reserve Pinot Noir 2007 normally $22.99 now $12.99
Beringer Knights Valley Alluvium Blanc 2007 normally $15.49 now $9.99
If you miss the 2010 Inventory Reduction Sale, look for Heritage's other seasonal sales in April, July, October, December.
