Snake in Starbucks: A non-poisonous snake that snuck into a Starbucks toilet through the pipes has shocked not only coffee lovers everywhere, but showed that the hardy rat snake can seemingly swim through almost anything to get into a public bathroom, Click2Houston.com reports this Thursday, Sept. 5. Bruce Ahlswede and his wife were equally stunned to find a real-life snake in a San Antonio Starbucks restroom, though they have vowed to still stay customers of the popular coffee place.
Finding a snake in Starbucks would be a shock to almost everyone. When Ahlswede first stepped into a stall and saw the snake curled around the toilet, he thought it was only a toy or a prank. Yet when the non-poisonous rat snake suddenly moved, Bruce rushed out of the room to find a Starbucks employee.
"I said 'Hey you've got a snake in your bathroom and she's kind of freaking out,' " Ahlswede said. He, his wife, and store workers then checked into the bathroom to see the snake curl around the toilet bowl before vanishing. Bruce’s wife was able to snap a photo of the snake.
"It had to have crawled up the pipes," Michele wrote on Facebook and Twitter after uploading the now viral rat snake picture. "I have heard of it happening but have never seen it in person. Its a python guess he like coffee also."
After the snake in Starbucks was identified, a snake expert confirmed that it was fortunately a non-poisonous snake that slithered up into the Starbucks’ toilet.
"A lot of people were really freaked out and some said 'thanks a lot," wife Michelle Ahlswede added.
Although the escape escaped, the South Texas Herpetology Association near San Antonio confirmed that the Starbucks store is safe, and not threatened by any future “snake infiltrations.”
The Ahlswede’s still plan on having coffee at Starbucks at the store, though they vowed to check their stalls before going to the washroom there.
