On April 26, the Amazon Apps for Android store is offering a free download of NatureStudy's Audubon Mammals: A Field Guide to North American Mammals. A $3.99 value, it will be available as a freebie for one day only.

NatureStudy created the Audubon Mammals app in conjunction with the National Audubon Society. Among other features, this handy app provides color photos, maps and recordings of animal sounds, plus a detailed description of each mammal. The resource can help you track a species or keep a record of animals you have spotted.

This digital field guide could be an excellent addition to your homeschool nature study. Use the app to learn about animals in your area, or look up mammals you've spotted in order to identify them. If you are new to nature study, Forest Park Nature Center is an excellent resource in the Peoria area that can get you pointed in the right direction. They offer hiking trails, a bird observation room, educational programming and more.

Audubon Mammals is offered free on April 26 in honor of John James Audubon's birthday. He was born April 26, 1785. Audubon, a naturalist, is remembered for his work of studying birds. He drew and painted a detailed record of the birds of North America. Audubon's "Birds of America," a four-volume work, was published in 1827.

NatureStudy has several other field guides available in the Amazon Apps for Android store. Topics covered include insects, birds, wildflowers, mushrooms, trees, butterflies and spiders. Prices begin at $0.99.
