One of the most important things you may read or hear about when trying to be healthier and practice good nutrition is that eating is required. Yes that’s right, you need to eat! As a person with a packed schedule it becomes apparent that the hungrier you become between meals, the more likely you are to eat poorly.

So what can you do to avoid grabbing those tempting unhealthy snacks? Start by packing healthy snacks! Bring a lunch/reusable bag or stuff them in your purse. If you have a desk or fridge at work you can keep some of them on hand for eating mid-morning or mid-afternoon when you start to feel a little tummy grumble. These are some of the things you can do to help fight the urge to overeat or grab an unhealthy snack choice.

Some suggestions for snack time include; Apple slices with almond butter or natural peanut butter, Hard boiled egg, Fruit such as; grapes, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries or a banana, Greek yogurt either flavored or vanilla with fresh fruit added, Low fat string cheese, Sugar free Jell-O or pudding snack, Hummus with sliced carrots, celery, peppers or other raw veggies, Low-fat cottage cheese plain or with fresh fruit added.

There are so many options out there. Regardless, developing a habit of healthy snacking will ensure you are not depriving yourself of the fuel your body needs and will also help you stay more alert. Healthy snacking will help keep your metabolism going so your body will be more likely to burn calories and fat rather than go into starvation mode.
