The Autism Society of America and AMC Theatres have partnered to offer Sensory Friendly screenings each month at theatres nationwide. Admission is reduced, and all shows start at 10am local time. The lights stay up, the sound is turned down lower than its usual thundering level and movie goers are free to move around, talk and bring special dietary snacks. This month's screening is Smurfs 2, the sequel to the first hit Smurfs movie.
The program started in one AMC theatre and quickly spread across the nation, Special needs families enjoy the chance to include everyone in an outing. The screenings also give special needs children a common topic of conversatin and interaction with their typical peers.
