Organizers of the 2010 Daytona Blues Festival planned for the weekend of October 8 - 10 are justifiably proud that they have scored another top blues duo for their event. Smokin' Joe Kubek and Bnois King recently achieved a #1 ranking on the iTunes music download Web site. Their latest album, "Have Blues Will Travel" was released on May 24 and the following day shot to the top of the charts as the most downloaded Blues Album, beating blues greats like The Blues Brothers, Howlin Wolf, Etta James, John Lee Hooker, and BB King.
Kubek and King wrote all twelve songs on the album. The combination of Kubek's guitar playing and King's vocals and guitar work creates a winning collection of blues-rock. King calls "Have Blues, Will Travel" the best record the band has ever made.
Kubek has been a guitar prodigy since the age of 14, playing the Dallas bar scene during the 1970s and early 80s with Stevie Ray Vaughan and the "three Kings", B. B., Albert and Freddie. Kubek met Bnois King at a Dallas jam session and the two became good friends, forming one of the most potent guitar combinations the Southwest has ever produced. Together this dynamic duo has recorded seven albums for Bullseye Blues & Jazz Records.
Florida blues fans will be happy to know that Kubek and King will be landing in the Blues Capital of Florida -- Daytona Beach -- the weekend of October 8 - 10 as part of a stellar lineup that no blues fan can resist. Tickets are on sale now, and the full array of bands and musicians can be found in the festival's original announcement or on the official festival Web site.
