Smoke over East Valley from a house fire north east of Higley and Guadalupe (Photos)

If you were out and about this morning, you most likely saw a large plume of smoke over the East Valley. The smoke was from a house fire in Gilbert, north east of Guadalupe and Higley.

The fire is thought to have started in the attic of the home and sadly, the structure appears to be a complete loss.

The good news is the family was not home at the time and the family dog was rescued and is safe.

In a few hours what remains of the house will be be searched utilizing the Gilbert Fire Department's newest resource – Spring the K-9.

Spring is a Black Lab newly employed by the Town of Gilbert.

The surrounding neighborhood was blocked off for most of the morning as multiple ladder trucks from the Mesa Fire Department and Gilbert Fire Department resources were used to fight the fire.
