The Smithereens announced Jan. 12 on their website they are paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of Beatlemania with a new CD called “The Smithereens Play The Beatles Washington, D.C. February 11, 1964 Concert. The disc features the group re-creating all the songs of the group's Washington, D.C., concert in the same order that they were played on Feb. 11, 1964.

As one of the highlights of the upcoming Fest for Beatles Fans at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City, the group will be performing the CD in its entirety on Feb. 9 at noon. It will also have copies of the CD available for sale at the Fest. The album will also be available on the Smithereens official website.

The new CD isn't the group's first homage to the Fab Four. They've released their first Beatles tribute, “Meet the Smithereens,” in 2007 and followed it up the following year with “B-Sides the Beatles” in 2008.

(Thanks to Pat DiNizio of the Smithereens and Dave Persails.)
